Would You Get A Hair Relaxer To Help Someone Else Out?

January 20, 2010

Would you get a hair relaxer to help someone else out? I know the question may sound weird and have a few of you scratching your heads, but Lisa Akbari, the “Hair Doctor” actually did it! She is a licensed cosmetologist, aesthetician and certified Trichologist with over 30 years experience in the hair care industry helping men, women, and children with hair and scalp problems. Her patients and followers have been asking her about transitioning to natural hair and she felt that she could do a better job addressing the questions by starting fresh and getting a relaxer… then starting the process of transitioning before our eyes on YouTube.

Most responses online, mostly from the hair forums and YouTube, suggest that she is being silly and just doing it as a gimmick to sell her hair products. Personally, I think it’s a great business move and I support her. It’s just hair! If she wants to shave it off, relax, or go natural, I could care less. I plan on sticking by my computer for updates and hopefully tips that will help me with my own transition. Check out the Before and After videos below and let me know what you think.

I think a stylist getting a relaxer and then transitioning to natural is a fantastic teaching tool. Relaxers are not evil. They are a means to manageable hair that people have used for years. Who better to get advice from than a stylist. My hope is that she is truthful about all the changes that she goes through to manage both hair textures during her transition…so people can get the real story.

i give any one credit. but personally since i’ve been natural for 20 months now. i am so in love with my hair. and ladys yes there is something wrong with relaxer. those chemicals that are saturating through your scalp into your bloodstream i can’t imagine .yes i use to be a lye head but i am no more. ladys once you go natural and you discover your true self that is knowing who you are and why the most high has blessed you with texture, melanin, and a spirituality its so beautiful sisters. don’t you see how people try to mimick who we are our features. but yet in still our beauty is not always appreciated through television, magazines etc. we are all beautiful study the 9 ethers of our hair. youtube is a start many blessings to the sisters out there on their journey know who you are and love it.
