I am a licensed hairstylist that works regularly with natural hair and your friend was correct. Natural hair which is also known as virgin hair is completely chemical free without any permanent alteration. Today, the term "natural hair", especially among the African American or Ethnic community, refer to relaxed free hair.

When it comes to chemically treating your hair I generally recommend my clients choose just one chemical process at a time in order to reduce the risk of damage. In other words, if they like to wear the relaxed straight look, then I advice they do not use permanent hair color and vice versa.

I would have to agree about the colour thing, especially if she is black and her hair is blonde.
