I read somewhere recently that braiding the roots and twisting the rest of the hair helps with the poofy roots. I've tried it and it works.

@ Tahishia - Instead of styling my hair in cornrows, I twist them back. And yes, I'm transitioning out of a relaxer.

@ Shelia- You might want to experiment with other hairstyles. I was tired of wearing my usual buns and twistouts and straightened my hair recently. A new look may help you with your dilemma.

My hair has been natural for about two yrs now. I had kept it in braids to grow it out (1 yr 8 m). Now that it is totally natural I don't know what to do with it. I try "placking" it in twists (is that what a twistout is). But it is wavy on the ends and my roots are "poofy". I almost look like I have a wig or bad weave on top of nappy hair. And that only last about a day, then I have to re-wash (which dries my hair out) and do it again. Or else my so called "twistout" will get so tangled up I pull my hair out trying to comb it. Please help me anything will be appreciated.

Hi L.J.,

My regimen and products that I use have changed drastically. I still recommend the two above, but when I have issues with my new hair growth now... I just spritz my hair with water and apply coconut oil. When I need to pull my hair into a bun or another sleek hairstyle, I'll use Syntonics Edge Define or Elasta P Glaze to handle my edges and flyaways.

I rarely cowash unless I need to go somewhere on the fly. I've been wigging it during most of the week and wearing twistouts on the weekend or if I have somewhere special to go.

This is exactly the stage I'm in right now! I'm sooo glad that I found your blog:) Do you use one of the products you mentioned on the new growth only? And how often do you co-wash? I will definitely be returning to read more:)
