Paula Begoun’s Hair Book Review

Paula Begoun’s Hair Book

This past Christmas, I was gifted Paula Begoun’s Don’t Go Shopping for Hair-Care Products Without Me book for Christmas. I have a ton of hair books that I need to get around to, but this one struck my interest because I recently saw Paula Begoun on Oprah. I just finished reading it and the bottom line is… I didn’t like it. If you have absolutely no clue about the ingredients in hair products you might want to give it a go. But honestly, I’m sure you can find a better book if you keep searching.

So what didn’t I like about it? You can clearly see that Paula did a ton of research, but the book was filled with contradictions. And the numerous mentions how great Pantene products are was ridiculous. It was as they were paying her for the plugs. She is a huge fan of cheap drugstore products and anti-salon anything. I’m not mad about the anti-salon bits in majority of the book… I’m a total do it myselfer(Yes, I know that’s not a real word, lol)… but there is no way you can duplicate Joico’s K-Pak by just adding mineral oil to a random drugstore conditioner. Woman please! Last, there was very little information in regards to black hair care. I suggest you pass when it comes to this book.

Hi! I liked this review of yours about this book… Actually I’m from Brazil, and it’s been hard to find this book around here, and in Amazon the cheapest one that delivers internationaly costs $40 (without the delivery taxes).

It’s been difficult trying to find it, but now it seems like this book is so overrated. I don’t know if I should buy it anymore.

Are there other books that you would recomend? That explains the chemistry behind the products and everything else. Not about a specific type of hair, but more about everything.

Thank you!
