Ok, I finally tried the Curly Nikki hairstyle. It’s not hard at all… You just section your hair, twist, and use rollers, rods, or flexis to curl your hair. I didn’t like my results at all. Again, my relaxed ends were not playing well and just looked thin compared to the rest of my hair. I’m convinced that the only curly hairstyle that works for me while I’m transitioning is a flat twistout. Anyway, when wearing it out didn’t look like it was working… I went ahead and pulled it into a ponytail, added a headband, and went out the door. Pictures are below…

I have the same problem. I am at 6 months transitioning and my hair is long but has almost no curl definition in many areas. It is curly/wavy when wet but once it dries, it is just a frizzy, straight/curly/wavy mess…The only thing that has worked is the braid-out and that is not even on a consistent basis. Maybe with more new growth, the curl definition will grow in. I have my fingers crossed.
Kiarah, I’m still crossing my fingers too, lol. What you described is exactly how my hair looks when I try to do twistouts and most braidouts (they are hit or miss). A hot frizzy 3 texture mess! Have you tried a flat twistout hairstyle? It’s the only hairstyle, outside of straightening, where my ends don’t look too thin.
The flat twistout definitely works better for me than a regular twist out. And braidouts almost always come out nice for me. It’s my go-to style.
Hey I saw your other post about the flat twistout and was wondering if you thought a style like that would work on relaxed hair. My hair is too thick and way to course to deal with natural (I can barely deal with it relaxed) but I want to try something new. What do you think?
Ty, I think it will work fine. Just finished styling my little cousin’s hair in a flat twistout and she is relaxed. I used the exact same method that I use on my own and it came out great!
