I’m going to be reviewing a ton of hair books over the next few weeks, and Going-Natural: How to Fall in Love with Nappy Hair is the perfect book to start with. If you’re contemplating going natural… Buy this book! It’s loaded with lots of pictures, instructions, and natural hair tips.
The book was written in 2004 (not too long ago) and all of the information presented is definitely still relevant. It’s a thin paperback with a little over 100 pages and I read it in less than two hours. Everything is covered including information about hair products, misconceptions and truths about Black hair care, instructions and pictures for doing natural hairstyles (coils, twists, bantu knots), and transitioning hair tips. And if your a visual person like me, the charts, graphs, and huge pictures will help you out immensely.
Last, there is a pretty extensive section dedicated to locs and starting hair locs with pictures included. I noticed that many hair books geared to natural hair fail to mention anything about starting and maintaining locs. So if you plan on going that route, definitely check out this book.
